Our Post is a POW/MIA American Legion Post. This means we are the Colorado chapter of The American Legion that actively honors U.S. service members held captive (Prisoners of War) or missing in action (Missing in Action) by conducting special remembrance services, flying the POW/MIA flag, and maintaining symbolic "Missing Man Tables" at meetings and events to ensure these heroes are never forgotten, stressing accountability for their return.

Our Post is named in honor of Maj. Pete Matthes, a C‑130 pilot who went missing in Laos in 1969. During the Vietnam War, every aircrew member was assigned a unique Escape & Evasion (E&E) authenticator code — a personal identifier used to verify their identity if they were forced to evade capture. Maj. Matthes’ code was GX2527.
Our Post carries that number as a living tribute to him and to all who remain unaccounted for.
